J.P. Phillips, Inc. - Commitment to Green Initiatives Recently, the world has become more focused on implementing environmentally sustainable practices, with the hopes of making the Earth and its residents healthier. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ judges various buildings on whether or not they are energy efficient, save water, are developed on a sustainable site, use recycled materials, and the quality of their indoor environment. J.P. Phillips Inc. has contributed to the design and construction of numerous Pittsburgh-area LEED certified projects: Including the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and the Shadyside Giant Eagle. The convention center, which has obtained a Gold Certified LEED™ Rating, was completed in 2003. It is the world’s first certified green convention center. Some of the low-emitting materials used in its construction include: adhesives, sealants, interior paints, and coatings. The post-consumer recycled content in the steel, aluminum, and dry wall made up nearly 13% of the total materials used in the project. As of April 2007, The Shadyside Giant Eagle was designated as the world's first LEED® Commercial Interior Silver Certified Supermarket. Throughout construction of the site, there were frequent indoor air quality tests. Low VOC finishes were integrated into the construction and a significant amount of recycled content was used in the concrete and dry wall. Back to Top |
